Our Mission

We seek to glorify God by:
  • Worshiping Him in Spirit and in Truth;
  • Growing in Christian maturity through discipleship;
  • Encouraging each other through fellowship;
  • Telling others about Christ; and
  • Serving all people.

What We Believe

God is the creator and ruler of the universe. He created all things for His glory. He alone is worthy of all honor and worship. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God. Genesis 1:1,26,27; Psalm 90:2; Exodus 20:11; Isaiah 43:10; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; I Peter 1:2; Matthew 22:37-40; Revelation 4:11

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with God the Father. He lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of the world by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven's glory and will return again someday to earth to judge mankind and reign as King of kings and Lord of lords. Jesus is the clearest manifestation of God's glory. Colossians 1:16; I Corinthians 2:8; Isaiah 9:6; Matthew 1:22-23; John 1:1-5,14,18; Romans 1:3-4; Philippians 2:6; John 5:39; Revelation 13:8; 2 Corinthians 4:6; Acts 4:12

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. Christians seek to live under His control daily. Holy Spirit is a Person, not an impersonal force. 2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13; 2 Corinthians 2:12; Ephesians 1:13

The Bible is God's Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is the truth without any mixture of error. 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21

Man was created in the image of God and is thus the supreme object of God's creation. God created us for His glory. However, all mankind is marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin". Sin separated man from God and leaves man in need of a way to be restored to a personal relationship with his Creator. Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 43:7

Salvation is God's free gift to us. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good deeds. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin's penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and by faith receive Jesus as Lord and Savior we are saved. God's purposes in saving us are to bring Himself glory, make us holy, and conform us to Christ. Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 10:9-10; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 8:29; I Corinthians 10:31; Ephesians 1:6

Eternal Security describes our position in Christ. Because God gives us eternal life though Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by self-effort of the Christian. John 10:28-29; 2 Timothy 1:12 Hebrews 7:25

Eternity. God created people to live forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or live eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are real places to eternal existence. 2 Thessalonians 1:9; Matthew 25:46; Isaiah 33:14; 2 Peter 2:4; Revelation 14:10, 20:15

Our Lifestyle Statement (what we practice)

Beliefs are worth nothing unless they are translated into actions (James 2:17 & 4:17). Based on what the Bible teaches, we act out our beliefs through the following practices:

Bible As Our Sole Authority

"All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking error, correcting faults, and giving instruction for right living, so that the man who serves God may be fully qualified and equipped to do every kind of good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Since God's Word is the only completely reliable and truthful authority, we accept the Bible as our manual for living. Our first question when faced with a decision is "What does the Bible say?" We challenge each other to grow in our relationship with God. We strongly encourage daily Bible reading, study and memorization--and applying it to every facet of our lives.

Autonomy of Each Local Church

"Christ is the head of His Body, the church. He is the source of the body's life... " Col 1:18

Jesus Christ is the recognized head of our church; not any person, group, or religious organization. While recognizing the value of associating and cooperating with other groups of Christians, we believe every local church should be self-governing and independent from any denominational control.

Priesthood of Every Believer (and soul competency)

"And from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen." Revelation 1:5-6

Every believer has direct access to God through prayer and Bible reading. We teach everyone that they are accountable for every word, thought, deed and attitude before God and that God expects them to represent Him as His ambassadors to all people. We encourage every member to find a place of service in the church, both inside and outside the walls of any building.

Stewardship

"Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so that there will be food enough in my Temple; if you do, I will open up the windows of heaven for you and pour out a blessing so great you won't have room enough to take it in! Try it! Let me prove it to you!" Malachi 3:10

At Broadway, we give generously to Christ's cause as God commands. We recognize that giving 10 percent of our income is the Biblical standard of giving. Tithing is an act of obedience and trust that demonstrates we have put God first in the most tangible area of our lives--our money. But it goes beyond money: God wants our hearts. Generosity is a good indicator of the Christian's temperature.

Immersion

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." Matthew 28:19

We practice baptism of believers by immersion under water -- the way Jesus was baptized and the way the Bible commands.

Spirit-Led Living

"I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me." Galatians 2:20

We believe the only way possible to live the Christian life is by God's Holy Spirit living in us and enabling us. So we seek to practice a moment-by-moment dependence on God's Spirit to live Christ's life out through us.

Telling Others About Christ

"but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect." 1 Peter 3:15

It is the responsibility of every Christian to share the Good News of Jesus with those God brings us into contact with. We practice personal sharing about Christ where we work, where we play, and where we live. And we do it courteously, respectfully and with kindness.

Prayer

God created us especially to enjoy intimate fellowship with Him. Prayer is an important part of our fellowship and spiritual growth. "One thing have I desired, that will I seek after: to dwell in Your house forever, to gaze upon Your beauty and enquire in Your holy temple." Ps 27:4

We encourage all believers to talk with God as a regular part of their daily time with Him. In addition, we dedicate regular times to assemble together as a church body and pray.

Fellowship

"... Love each other just as much as I love you. Your strong love for each other will prove to the world that you are my disciples." John 13:34-35

Fellowship with other believers is an essential part of spiritual growth. We encourage our people to build Christian relationships--individually, in small and large groups. We encourage one-on-one discipleship and mentoring.

Service

Once we are equipped as disciples of Jesus we understand our call to serve each other and the world that surrounds us. Jesus said, "I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them." John 13:15-17
